Auto Close: the programmatic process of automatically closing a batch daily at a specific time.
Batch: the result of bundling transactions together and preparing them for settlement.
Card Category: used in the Virtual Terminal to identify the type of card being processed; for example, credit card, debit card, corporate card, or private label card.
Card Number: the account number on the front of a credit card.
Card Present: a transaction where the credit card is presented to a clerk at a physical merchant location at the time the transaction is processed.
Card Type: used in the Virtual Terminal to identify the card brand type being used; for example, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover.
CVV/CID: card verification code typically located near the signature line on the back of a credit card; typically 3 or 4 digits long.
Entity: a generic term for a placeholder or level within the hierarchy
Hierarchy: a leveling system where locations can be grouped together by business operation segments such as enterprise, region, division, location, and terminal.
Location: within the hierarchy, a term used to describe a merchant’s physical location that will have one or more terminals configured.
POS: a general term referring to a Point-of-Sale system, Property Management system, eCommerce website or any other business system integrated to the roomMaster Payments Gateway.
Terminal: an identifier of a revenue center or register capable of tendering a transaction to the roomMaster Payments Gateway. Also known as a Terminal ID.
Transaction: the process of collecting, inputting, and transmitting payment request information to the roomMaster Payments Gateway.
Transaction Type: the type of transaction to be processed such as a SALE, RETN, AUTH (authorization), VOID, INCR (incremental authorization), etc. See the table of Transaction Type Definitions for a detailed description of each transaction type.
Token: a data string comprised of letters and numbers that is used to reference a card account stored within the roomMaster Payments Gateway. A token can be used in lieu of an actual card account number to process or adjust a transaction. A token reduces the transmittal of sensitive card account information and relieves the integrated POS from having to store sensitive account information.
Virtual Terminal: a feature of the roomMaster Payments Gateway where a user with proper access privileges can process a credit card transaction.
